FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

Plans are well underway for the 2010 Willard School Carnival.  Please mark your calendars for Sunday, June 6th. This event is always the highlight of the spring for most Willard students. Plans are also underway for Field Day. Mr. Germond is soliciting parent help for Field Day Activities. As with all volunteer opportunities at school, all volunteers must have an approved CORI on file with the district. CORIs remain in effect for three years from the date of issue. In keeping with state law and district policy, no parent will be allowed to volunteer without an
approved CORI.

Last week, Willard students enjoyed a successful Litter Free Lunch Week. Much of the credit for the success of the week goes to the organizers. The event was jointly planned by Earth Care Club Advisor, Mrs. Matheus, and Willard parent, Michelle Ernst. Members of the Earth Care Club and a variety of parent volunteers contributed to the success of this initiative,

The nice weather of the past week has inspired many 4th and 5th grade students to bike to school. Parents are reminded that students should not arrive at Willard until 8:45. Upon arrival, students should secure their bikes, enter the building, and go directly to their classroom. Students should not arrive at school until 8:45 because there is no supervision inside or outside of the building until that time. Thank you in advance for helping your child time his/her departure from home to accommodate the appropriate arrival time at school.

April was Poetry Month. Many students have recently contributed a Spring Poem for this school wide display. I plan to display student poems for the remainder of the month.

Next week, MCAS Testing resumes for students in Grades 3 -5. Students in grades 3 & 5 will participate in the Math MCAS on Monday, May 10th and Tuesday, May 11th. Grade 4 students will participate in the Math MCAS on Wednesday, May 12th and Thursday, May 13th. Fifth grade students will participate in MCAS Science/Technology & Engineering on May 18th and May 19th. It is especially important that students arrive to school on time on MCAS testing days.

Happy Mother's Day to all Willard mothers.

As always, thank you for all you do for Willard School.
- Pat Fernandes

Win a $25 gift certificate to The Cedar Hill Dairy Joy in Weston. There will be four winners!

We need your help to determine how kids get to school and why. Watch for a survey in your email. The survey link will also be posted in the Willard Weekly soon. Thank you so much!

DON'T FORGET - DELICIOUS DONATIONS
Helen's Restaurant on Main St. is generously contributing 10% of all Willard sales to the Willard PTG for the entire month of May! So PLEASE mention that you're from Willard when you are paying your bill in order for the school to receive this donation. Helen's is a delicious spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner. And now there's even more reason to stop by for ice cream and homemade frozen yogurt!
